Investors welcome changes to Rio Tinto Board

Rio Tinto has today announced the departure of directors Simon Thompson and Michael L’Estrange. In response to this announcement, ACSI CEO Louise Davidson has commented:

“ACSI welcomes the announcement by Rio Tinto of board change in recognition of Board accountability for cultural and operational failures.”

“Today’s announcement means the Board can be renewed. In particular, investors would like to see the Board increase its connection with Australian operations and communities, as well as an increase in mining experience.”

“The destruction of the Juukan caves resulted in a devastating cultural loss. Today’s announcement is a step towards the company rebuilding relationships with Traditional Owners.” She said.
